NO-ONE wants to splash their hard earned cash, only to make their home look cheaper.
One interior design has revealed the common decor mistakes which do exactly that – so make sure you avoid them.
Marissa posts as Barely Keeping It Together on TikTok.
Giving her brutally honest opinion, she shares the “things making your house look CHEAP”.
Marissa says the first thing to avoid is “cord clutter”.
She says: “Look at the TV cords in the top picture and how this could be a really cute little set-up but the cords are just ruining it.”
Marissa advises running the cables behind your walls and says renters can get away with it by fixing the holes before they move.
Next up, she says: “Parents don’t be mad at me, but this kid clutter on your fridge is making it look really cheap.
“If you’re having guests over, just clean it up and get everything off. If you want it to look higher end. If not, do you boo.”
Marissa is also against “general mess and clutter”.
She says: “If everything has a place and you use a minimalistic design, it’s going to look so much more luxurious.”
In a second video, she says: “I’m going to tell you about interior design mistakes I don’t want you to make in your own home.
“First up, try to keep your kitchen counters as clear as possible.”
For reference, she shares a picture of a baking mixer and kitchen drawers on the counter.
She says: “All of this honestly just looks cluttered, even though this is a picture trying to sell an organiser.”
Marissa adds: “Most designers are going to give you this advice, but don’t buy an entire matching bedroom set. Honestly it looks very 80s and 90s, going in a big box store.
“It’s going to really cheapen your house if you have curtains that don’t go all the way down to the floor.
“This just looks silly. Try to get your curtains as close to the ceiling and just kissing the bottom of the floor, to get the very high end look.
“Lastly, rugs that are too small for a living space don’t look good. Go bigger.”
But people weren’t too impressed by her opinions. One commenter said: “A house should be a home not a museum.”
While a mum wrote: “Don’t listen to her. Y’all keep them magnets and kids drawing on your fridge. I LOVE to see that in people houses. It’s apart of what makes a house a home.”
And a third viewer added: “Can we just normalize normal houses?! Ffs.”
Another said: “These aren’t design mistakes they’re personal opinions”.
While one riled follower wrote: “Tbh most of the things you mentioned just makes a house look dull and more like living in w hotel”.
