Summer might be over, but that doesn’t mean you can’t dream about days lounging by the pool, drink in hand.
A high-end Irving hotel won the 2021 “Dream Design” award from Aquatics International, an industry trade magazine.
Overlooking Lake Carolyn, the Omni Las Colinas completed a $13 million renovation in 2020. Its outdoor area includes an expansive swimming pool, a hot tub, and a pavilion with bars, cabanas and restaurants. It also has three event lawns, game courts and fire pits with seating.
Aquatics International said the hotel sought to entertain business and leisure travelers but also attract local residents, turning them into regular customers.
To do so, the hotel built a pathway along Lake Carolyn, which connects to the hotel and provides a scenic trail that leads to the outdoor bar and restaurant.
It blended the hotel’s existing Burmese design with Texas touches, like limestone and native plants. The hotel also added a custom-designed screen to shield pool cabanas from the lobby, “adding visual interest and allowing light to the space,” Aquatics International said.
“All amounted to a modern, clean aesthetic,” the magazine wrote.
Built in the 1980s, the 421-room high-rise hotel was the first major hotel built in Irving’s Las Colinas community.
