Sarasota-headquartered Florida Design Works announced the purchase of Kirkplan Kitchens earlier this month, a combination that will see the two firms complement their respective strengths, according to a news release.
The transaction amount was not disclosed.

Both remodeling companies have strong presences in Sarasota with Kirkplan Kitchens operating three showrooms in Manatee and Sarasota counties. Design Works worked more closely with builders.
Kirkplan opened its newest showroom at 2015 Cattleman Road less than a year ago.
“The acquisition strengthens the Design Works home remodeling platform by offering direct-to-consumer kitchen, bath, and outdoor home improvement where the entire project from design, planning, permitting, demolition, construction, and implementation are all handled by one team,” the news release said.

David Koffman, an owner of Design Works, noted the company has been operating in the region for 50 years in the remodeling sector of the construction industry.
“By bringing on Kirkplan, they will serve as the consumer division for our home remodeling business – and Design Works will continue to serve our business partners and their clients,” he said in the news release.
Kirkplan Kitchens will have no disruption to its operations during the transition of ownership.

Jeffery Koffman, another owner of Design Works, pointed out that each company will continue to operate independently.
“The real benefit will be behind the scenes where the divisions can integrate technologies, benefit from economies of scale, and provide wholesale buying leverage,” he said in the news release.
Kirkplan Kitchens will continue to operate its three showrooms.
